Single-Chip Octal 10/100Base-TX PHY Transceiver
General Description
The RTL8208D-VB is a single-chip highly integrated 8-port, 10Base T/100Base-TX Ethernet transceiver implemented in 0.11μm CMOS technology. Flexible hardware settings are provided to configure the various operating modes of the chip. The RTL8208D provides an XSMII interface-to-MAC controller for octal-PHY, allowing reduced IC pin count and PCB complexity.

A PECL (Pseudo Emitter Coupled Logic) receiver accepts input from a transceiver and directly passes it to a clock recovery circuit for data/clock recovery. The chip utilizes an advanced CMOS process to meet low voltage and low power requirements. With on-chip DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology, the chip provides excellent performance under all operating conditions.

A built-in UTP cable tester diagnoses an open/short fault in an attached cable. The RTL8208D also features very low power consumption. Additionally, pin-outs are designed to provide optimized direct routing, which simplifies the layout work and reduces possible EMI noise.

  • Pre-IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet ( EEE)
    The RTL8208D supports draft IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) ability for 100Base-TX in full duplex operation, and supports 10Base-Te for 10Base-T in full/half duplex, which can reduce power consumption during periods of low link utilization.

  • Link-Down Power Saving
    The RTL8208D implements link-down power saving on a per-port basis, greatly cutting power consumption when the network cable is disconnected.
  • Link-On and Cable Length Power Saving
    The RTL8208D provides detection of cable length and adjustment of power required for the detected cable length. This feature provides high performance with minimum power consumption.
